When it comes to the welfare of a city, a community…. it seems to me that an individual is more important than the collective whole.
So, Me > We. Its all about personal gain, its all about trying to make the more money out of any product/service.
Like the dude that thinks building a Starbucks in Kensington Market (a very anti-corporation area of the city) is a good idea. He wants to see that community destroyed for personal gain.
Or destroying a decades old building (built in 1931) to put a grocery store in its place. “Loblaws wants to change that by gutting the interior and turning it into two levels of parking and two levels of retail space.” source
If everyone keeps thinking of the short term benefits instead of the long term consequences… we’ll never get anywhere.
