While I don’t disagree with the pointlessness of this scene, I’ve heard it’s because they didn’t want two movies…
I believe the decision to split things into two movies happened pretty early, and I think that’s exactly why they decided to dumb down the action on the 6th movie and like magicalbros said: “it shows how nowhere in the wizard world is safe anymore, The Burrow, once a safe place, has been infiltrated.”
Also I think they needed to develop the Weasley’s hate for Bellatrix (and vise versa) a bit more, specially given what happens on DH Pt 2.
